I Spy With my Little Eye...

A de-saturation of 20% (88%-98% is normal saturation) scared this mom today but Wyatt quickly recovered. The nurse did come running in and had to increase his oxygen significantly.  Although it was only a few seconds, those seconds were painful!  Sometimes he drops to 87%, 80%, even 60% but I've never experienced 20%.  I'm thankful that the rest of his day was less exciting!

He did have a visit from the pediatric ophthalmologist tonight who reported that although his retina is not fully developed that retinopathy of prematurity does not appear to be a concern.  That's a big one so we're thankful that this initial report was very positive.  Wyatt was also happy to have those eye clamps removed at the end of her evaluation.  She will be back in 2 weeks and we'll keep all of you posted!

Hiccups

This boy gets hiccups frequently - especially during his one hour feedings.  He probably doesn't like them (just like I don't) but it's so cute when he gets them!

Monday's Update

Yesterday was one of the best days Wyatt has ever had (medically speaking).  He's feeding and breathing well.  I got to help with cares and hold him and he just seemed happy and well.  He was up ten more grams so he's surpassed the 2 pound mark, already coming in at a whopping 2 pounds, 1 ounce and these parents couldn't be happier!

2 Pound Party

We celebrated Wyatt's jump on the scale to 2 pounds with a 2 Pound Party.  If you haven't noticed, we celebrate it ALL 'round here!  Our parents and siblings joined us for a celebration in the hospital's Family Lounge.  We snacked on carrots, strawberries, cheese, crackers, and candy (all in 2 pound increments, of course) and everyone went home with $2 as their Two Pound Party favor! Thanks for celebrating our boy with us!

Our Little Chunker

It's tough being two.  TWO POUNDS!!!!!!!!!!  Yep, our Wy Guy has hit the 2 pound mark and we couldn't be more thrilled.  We're very proud parents. 

Everything else in his world is as it should be, too.  His feedings continue to go well although he often de-sats during these but they've shortened his feedings so he has less time to de-sat (during them) and also more time for him to digest and for the nurses to take air out of his tummy, helping the breathing process. 

He had no brady episodes which made today quite pleasant.  

We continue to see him smile and open his eyes more and more all the time.  In the pictures below you can see him with scent cloths of mine.  The hospital has these pieces of fabric that I wear to transfer my scent to him.  They often use them to protect his eyes from light.  We had a short visit today so neither of us held but we can't wait to hold our chunk tomorrow!

Bennett & Wyatt

Saw this guy yesterday and it made my day.  Like Romy, he won't be able to meet Wyatt until he is home from the hospital.  I don't know how much he understands but he knows he has a cousin Wyatt (who he had named Comet for a period of time!) We can't wait for Wyatt to meet his goofy, adorable, fun, curious, sweet, cousin, B.  Soon, right?
